Just before Y2K I had the opportunity to go on a trip to Mexico City and Teotihuacan with my choral group at Nazareth College of Rochester. The trip was incredibly fun and I think an eye-opening experience for me. Having the chance to see another part of the world was incredibly influential; I met a variety of people from all over Mexico City and hiked the pyramids of Teotihuacan with Adam. Additionally, I took a wealth of pictures that at the time were quick point-and-shoot attempts to capture what certainly seemed wonderful to me at the time. Reflecting on these images now, I see so much in them that I couldn’t have noticed in the moment. It’s amazing to envision the stories that certain images seem to tell. I’d like to share some of my favorite shots from this trip here.
Traveling to Mexico was a wonderful opportunity, and I hope I get the chance to go back someday. It is my hope to establish a study abroad program to Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and several other places at some point in the future of my career. Getting a chance to travel and experience life in another part of the world, among people from different cultures and language realities, helps to foster awareness and shape one’s sense of how great the world is.
